A healthy
fresh mouth starts with healthy gums. Our hygienists
Ruthie & Nicky will check where your plaque is
tending to form & give you a plaque score. The
lower the healthier, aim for under 15% consistently,
ideally under 10%.
They’ll also check to see if there area any areas where your
gums are beginning to detach from the teeth, forming a gum pocket. Pocket areas will need extra care and regular
monitoring to ensure you keep the affected tooth over the
long term. Remember that more adult teeth are extracted
because of gum disease, than because of decay. Once you
know where the difficult-to-clean areas of your
mouth are,the hygienists will help you formulate
a home care programme to establish and maintain
a low plaque score. Teeth can often be repaired
and reconstructed even when very broken down, but
once gum disease is established it generally progresses
until the tooth is so loose or infected it can
only be removed.

Beautiful metal-free restorations can be made in around an
hour with no need for messy impressions or temporaries, and
no need for a second fitting appointment. Cerec is a fantastic
new innovation which uses a digital camera to take an image
of a prepared tooth (instead of an impression or
mould) then,
you just relax with a coffee and a magazine whilst
we design
the restoration which might be a crown, inlay or
veneer.
A crown is a cap that fits over a broken-down or
weak tooth just as a thimble fits over a finger.
An inlay is a little section that fits into the cavity
of the tooth just like the last piece in a jigsaw.
A veneer is a new front for a tooth, rather like
a false fingernail.
The restoration is then milled out of a small block
of porcelain, and can be polished and fitted straight
away. |

Our Diagnodent laser probe detects decay much earlier than the traditional mirror and probe and is 95% accurate. It can
detect spots of decay before they reach the dentine.
(Once decay is into the dentine you need a filling.)
This way we can treat the decay early as well, meaning
much less drilling and removal of tooth substance. |
| |
Ozone is used in the practice to reverse early spots of decay discovered with the laser probe. It is also used to sterilise
cavities prior to filling, reducing post-operative discomfort and reducing the need for root canal therapy. It can also be used
to de-sensitise persistently sensitive teeth. |

Cold sores can be extremely irritating and sore and usually pop
up just when they are least wanted. If you’re a sufferer you’ll
know that they usually take 7-10 days to heal completely and during this time they are really unattractive. Ozone provides the means to ‘zap’ the cold sore virus early and either prevent it
from coming out or limit its duration to just 72 hours. Call us as soon as you know you’ve got one coming and we’ll slot you in the same day. The earlier we treat the more effective the ozone is. |
